Santam

Santam is the leading short-term insurer in South
Africa with a market share nearing 30%.
We offer clients a wide variety of highly
specialised products and services. Our core business has been the same
for more than 87 years - to take care of our clients' insurance needs. This is
embedded in providing short-term insurance products and services aimed at
specific markets, as well as using and optimising our broker network as the main
delivery channel.
The company focuses on the corporate,
commercial and personal markets.
Client contact centres in all the main
cities make it convenient for the client and broker to manage their insurance
affairs. We provide multiple points of entry, so they can choose if they want to
conduct their business personally, telephonically or electronically via our
website. Our extranet allows brokers electronic access to our insurance support
systems.
With 95% of our business coming from brokers,
they are Santam's lifelines. More than 60 Santam offices in South Africa and
Namibia support our network of about 7 500 intermediaries. We have various
initiatives in place to confirm our commitment to a long-term relationship with
our business partners.
Santam also has two world-class call centres
in Cape Town and Johannesburg respectively. Highly trained consultants
assist brokers and clients with, amongst other, insurance quotes and policy
amendments.
With assets totaling more than R12 billion, a
countrywide infrastructure and broker network and more than 650 000
policyholders, our yellow umbrella is truly covering South Africa. Santam also
has business interests in Zimbabwe, Malawi and Zambia. We hold strategic
investments in various companies in the insurance industry, including the subsidiary
Santam Namibia Ltd.
In January 2003 we acquired UK niche insurer Westminster
Motor Insurance Association Ltd, which specialises in insurance for taxis
and private motor rental companies. In March 2003 we extended our British
business interests by obtaining a 47,5% share in the British personal lines
underwriting manager Bluesure.
