HOW PETSURE WORKS
Once your vet has treated your pet, simply send in a PetSure claim form
(your vet will help you fill it out) along with your vet's detailed
account. PetSure then adds up the benefit value and sends payment
directly to you. It is as simple as that. Claims are easy to make and
are quickly and efficiently settled. PetSure enables you to utilise any
veterinarian of your choice and even provides cover for referrals.

YOUR QUESTIONS
ANSWERED
Question:
Are there any age limits for the insurance?
Answer: Your
pets must be between 8 weeks and 8 years of age to qualify - membership
is kept up for life.
Question:
When will my policy start and when can I claim?
Answer: Your
policy will commence at midnight on the day that your proposal has been
accepted by us. The commencement date is printed on your certificate of
insurance. You may make a claim for conditions which arise 30 days after
the commencement date.
Question:
What is not covered?
Answer: Cover
cannot be provided for preventative treatment, vaccinations or desexing
(unless the routine care cover option is selected). No cover is provided
for pregnancy and congenital or hereditary defects or for conditions
showing clinical signs before taking out the insurance.
Question:
Will PetSure cover Routine Procedures?
Answer: Yes.
But only if the routine cover is selected. Check ups and elective
surgery are not covered in the same way that maintenance on a motor
vehicle is not covered on a motor policy. Dental scaling is also not
covered (unless the routine care option is selected).
Question:
What is Accidental Injury?
Answer: A
physical or bodily injury which happens accidentally to your pet as a
result of external, violent and visible means.
Question:
Does my pet have to have a microchip or tattoo to claim?
Answer: Yes.
This provides permanent identification and acts as your pet's medical
aid card, allowing you to utilise any veterinarian countrywide.
Question:
Where do I get a microchip?
Answer:
Microchips are available from PetSure, your local veterinarian or SPCA.
Your vet will inject the microchip painlessly under the loose skin of
your pet. Note - no claims will be paid unless PetSure has proof of this
microchip insertion.
Question:
Indoor pets don't have many health problems, do they?
Answer: When
we think of the unexpected, we instantly think of accidents. However,
over 75% of all claims are for illnesses and not accidents. Research
shows that indoor pets are no less susceptible to these illnesses.
Question:
Should I wait until my pet is older to purchase pet insurance.
Answer: Young
pets are like babies and toddlers - they lack full coordination. They
are more likely to experience injuries, or get into trouble. They lack
the perception and judgment that comes from experience, and they are so
small they don't know when they're underfoot. It's always better to
enroll them when they're young, especially before pre-existing
conditions develop, or accidents and illnesses occur
Question:
Instead of pet insurance, I can just start saving now for a pet illness
or accident.
Answer: The
intention is right, but if an emergency occurs in the next few months
and you've only saved a few Rand, you won't have the money needed for
treatments or surgery. Most people aren't prepared for the actual cost
of veterinary emergency care, or adequately prepared to put aside that
much money at one time.
Question:
There's no such thing as 'preventive care' coverage.
Answer:
PetSure offers pet owners the choice of selecting Routine Care Cover, a
plan that includes sterilization and preventive care, without utilising
your benefits for accident and/or illness coverage. It really depends on
you and your pet. If you regularly have your pets vaccinated, Routine
Care Cover makes good financial sense.
